Day 347
Another one that was (loosely) inspired by a prompt from the Poetic Asides blog. This one said to write a next steps poem.
What will be
I don’t know what’s coming
or what I’m becoming
or quite what the future holds,
so I’ll just have to wait,
try to anticipate
and see just how it all unfolds.
Day 346
This one was inspired by today’s prompt on the Poetic Asides blog, which was to write a last chance poem.
Last Chance
It only happens now and then
and I won’t get this chance again,
so now I have to take my shot
and give it everything I’ve got.
I just can’t hold back anymore,
I’ve got to make this work before
this opportunity slips away,
so here I go into the fray.
Day 345
Another one inspired by the end of the year/decade.
In Review
Another corner turned,
too many lessons learned
and, unfortunately,
what appear to be
a few more bridges burned.
Day 344
I was thinking about the phrase ignorance is bliss and it gave me the idea for the first two lines of this one. Incidentally, it also contains a nod to my first foray into writing metered verse … the lyrics to a song called Bad Situation that I wrote at the age of 13.
If I knew then
Blissfully ignorant
of the ramifications
of all the lost causes
and bad situations
that I’ve stumbled into
over the years,
but not everything
is quite as it appears.
Day 343
We were hit with a massive snow storm yesterday and the thought of digging out from under all of the snow lead me to the first line of this one.
If at first …
Crawling out from underneath
the wreckage once again.
It’s just something that happens to me
every now and then.
One more miscalculation
and again I’ve missed the mark.
Maybe I’ll get lucky
with my next shot in the dark.
Day 342
The first line popped into my head and eventually turned into this.
In Silence
The space between words,
a silence that holds
so many thoughts
that can never be told.
A passing glimpse into
authentic intent,
beyond anything
that words can represent.
Day 341
With the end of the year/decade rapidly approaching, it gave me the idea for this one.
Resolute
Making up for past mistakes,
before I ever knew the stakes
or how little time it takes
to tear it all apart.
Trying to dig myself out
from under so much fear and doubt,
but one thing I’m not sure about
is just where I should start
Day 340
I was playing the demo of Fluidity and it reminded me of the old saying ‘be the water not the rock’ which, in turn, gave me the initial idea for this one.
Proceed with caution
Gentle, subtle, not too much,
it only takes the slightest touch.
You must be patient, it takes time
to make the slow and steady climb.
Little by little, bit by bit,
enough to find the perfect fit.
Just keep it up and you will see
that it’ll get done eventually.
Day 339
The initial inspiration for this one came from the documentary Exit Through the Gift Shop.
Under Deconstruction
It’s like nothing I’ve seen.
So, what does it mean?
Just what are you trying to say?
I want to understand
as much as I can,
please explain it all away.
Tell me what inspired,
exactly what fired
your imagination that way?
I still don’t think I get
the point of it and yet
I think I like it anyway.
Day 338
I noticed the box that the guitar that I ordered last week was delivered in and it gave me the idea for this.
Under Wraps
When you allow yourself
to finally begin
to peel away the layers
and see what lies within
what do you think you’ll find,
for better and for worse,
and will it be a blessing
or simply just a curse?
